Namo Bharat Records High Ridership
The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) recorded its highest single-day ridership on February 23, 2026, with over one lakh passengers. This milestone occurred on the first full day of operations after the entire corridor was inaugurated.
The Prime Minister of India inaugurated the complete 82-km Delhi-Meerut corridor along with the Meerut Metro link on the previous day.
Festive Atmosphere and High Expectations
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) expected the total ridership to surpass one lakh by the end of the day on Monday. Visuals from Begumpul station in Meerut showed large crowds eager to use the new service. Passengers were seen taking pictures, and some chanted "Bharat Mata ki Jai". Some commuters showered flower petals as the train arrived.
Corridor Details
The Delhi-Meerut RRTS spans 82.15 km. The estimated travel time from Delhi to Meerut is 55 minutes. Trains run frequently, with service every 15 minutes from all 16 stations.
Looking Ahead
The Delhi–Meerut RRTS is expected to have a daily ridership of 1.67 lakh passengers once fully operational.
Meerut Metro Integration
The Meerut Metro is integrated with the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System at four stations: Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram. The first phase of the Meerut Metro covers 23.6 km with 12 stations.
