PM Modi Flags Off New Trains in Kerala
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off four new trains in Kerala on January 23, 2026, including three Amrit Bharat Express trains and one passenger train. The launch aims to improve rail connectivity in Kerala and neighboring states.

Details of the New Train Services
The new train services that were inaugurated are:
- Thiruvananthapuram Central – Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express
- Nagercoil Junction – Mangaluru Junction Amrit Bharat Express
- Thiruvananthapuram North – Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express
- Thrissur – Guruvayur Passenger Train
All four services commenced operations at 10.45 a.m. from their respective locations.
Amrit Bharat Express
The Amrit Bharat Express trains are designed to offer affordable, safe, and reliable long-distance travel. These trains aim to bridge the gap between conventional mail/express services and premium trains. They feature modern coaches, upgraded interiors, improved passenger information systems, and enhanced safety features. The Amrit Bharat Express trains have a maximum operating speed of 110–130 km/h and consist of 22 coaches, including 20 passenger coaches and 2 parcel coaches.
Impact and Objectives
The newly launched services are expected to improve inter-State connectivity between Kerala and neighboring States such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. Indian Railways aims to offer better travel comfort at economical fares and strengthen regional mobility in the southern region. The introduction of the Nagercoil Junction–Mangaluru Junction Amrit Bharat Weekly Express is expected to promote tourism, support fisheries and small trade, and enhance interstate economic integration along Kerala's coastline.
Additional Projects Launched
In addition to flagging off the new trains, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship Hub and other infrastructure projects. He also launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card and disbursed PM SVANidhi loans to beneficiaries.
