Thackeray Cousins React to Mumbai BMC Election Results

Following the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders have indicated that their political efforts will continue. The BMC election has intensified the political landscape in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena (UBT), in a social media post on X, stated, "This battle is not over yet... It will continue just like this until the Marathi person receives the respect they deserve!". The party framed the election outcome as part of a longer political struggle centered on Marathi identity and dignity.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the fight would continue for the “Marathi Manoos”, the Marathi language, Marathi identity, and a prosperous Maharashtra.

The alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has made the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections significantly more competitive.

Background

The Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, had earlier released a joint manifesto ahead of the BMC polls, focusing on housing, civic services, and infrastructure in Mumbai. Their promises included affordable housing on BMC-owned land, a separate municipal housing authority, and improved services related to water supply, waste management, roads, transport, health, and education.

Devendra Fadnavis has stated that the BMC election is a fight for political survival for the Thackeray cousins.

Looking Ahead

The Shiv Sena (UBT) took a lead in 75 seats of the 165 it contested. For the first time in over three decades, Mumbai will not have a mayor from the Shiv Sena.

Conclusion

Both Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS suggest their efforts will persist. The election results mark a significant moment for the Thackeray parties and the political dynamics of Mumbai.
