US President Responds to Speculation About Potential Action Against Putin
Following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by U.S. forces, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy alluded to the possibility of similar actions against other leaders, including Russia's Vladimir Putin. However, President Trump has downplayed the likelihood of such a scenario.
When asked about the possibility of the U.S. capturing Putin, President Trump stated, "I don't think it's going to be necessary". He also mentioned his disappointment with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, expressing a desire for a quicker resolution.
The U.S. military operation that led to Maduro's apprehension involved a raid in Caracas, after which Maduro and his wife were transported to the United States to face charges including drug trafficking. Maduro's vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, has since assumed the presidency of Venezuela.
Trump's Perspective on the Russia-Ukraine War
President Trump commented on the Russia-Ukraine war, stating that he had "settled eight wars" and anticipated this conflict would be easier to resolve. He also noted the significant losses suffered by both sides and the struggling Russian economy.
Zelenskyy's Comments and the International Criminal Court
Zelenskyy's initial comments, suggesting the U.S. "knows what to do next" after Maduro's capture, were widely interpreted as a reference to Putin. It is important to note that Putin currently faces arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged war crimes in Ukraine, further complicating diplomatic efforts.
US Involvement in Venezuela
Following the capture of Maduro, President Trump stated that the U.S. is "going to run the country" until a safe transition can take place. He also suggested that American oil companies could play a key role in reviving Venezuela's oil industry.
